Summer means outdoor activity… paddling, cycling, running, ultimate Frisbee, gardening. If you’re at all like me, you’re more active and more relaxed during the summer months. But, as is true of any activity, it’s possible to have too much of a good thing with even these summer pleasures and overwork some muscles, underwork others, and potentially injure yourself.

Yoga is the perfect complement to almost any physical activity. A well-designed series can stretch and strengthen the entire body to keep it in fine form for other activities. An increasing number of professional athletes have added yoga to their cross-training to enhance their performance.

Love paddling? Your shoulders and lower back will love yoga.

Gardening? Your knees and lower back will love yoga.

Running and cycling? Your knees, hips, and lower back will love yoga.

I’m sure you get the point…

Yes, yoga is typically an indoor activity, but spending an hour or two on the mat each week can enhance your enjoyment of outdoor play by strengthening your body and reducing the likelihood of injury.

And this says nothing of the incredible relaxation that can follow a good yoga practice.

So do yourself a favour, grab a mat, and swing by sometime for a drop-in class.
